Found this salamander on my back patio in the pouring rain.
Pull its tail off!
jk
Am I the only one who can’t stand reptiles(minus birds)/ amphibians. I’ve seen too many people who find frogs ‘cute’. Like wtf
Reptiles and amphibians are great creatures, not sure what you can’t stand about them. You don’t have to like them as long as you treat them respectfully when you see them.
They just kinda gross me out. Still make sure to tip my hat when I see one.
I think a lot of amphibians are seen as cute because of their smooth, rounded features. There are some gnarly looking toads out there that probably don’t get the same love.
I enjoy seeing them all, but I also grew up in Florida where they were everywhere. Plus, they’re great for pest control, so I’ve always enjoyed having them around for that.
I’m in PA, so this is actually a pretty rare sight for me.
Nature has a way of making some real freak show organisms. Speaking from experience.
Almost 2 weeks ago I found a wall lizard inside a pool. Poor baby was so scared (maybe tired) that he didn’t even flinch. I caught him, and placed him on a wall near the pool. I love nature! However, I also hate spiders. So, we are not perfect. And although I am ashamed to admit it, if I find a spider inside my home, I will squish that little fucker.
Poor little guys. I will trap and release all bugs, even spiders and centipedes, I find and let them outside away from the house, no hard feelings. And I’m not talking about the sluggish cute little ones, I’m talking the fastest meanest baddies. It took me awhile to get to this point. But when you think about it, they are just hungry little adventurers in a big scary world (not unlike us). It feels really selfish and cruel to decide they must die because they accidentally showed themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. They worked their little legs off every single day of their lives to find food and make it this far, just like us. And I’m just going to end all of that in a violent horrible way because I’m grossed out or scared, when I am how many times bigger than they are? It’s so unfair to them.
If you still want to kill them, try this first: next time you see one, capture it in a clear plastic container. Consider it your pet for the next few minutes or so. Watch their movements, try to feed them, look at how amazing their bodies are built, build them a little habitat. The set them free outside! You’ll understand their perspective a little better and then you’ll be able to empathize next time you see one, maybe enough to let them live.
(Disclaimer: I wouldn’t do this for dangerous or damaging/pest insects)
Funnily enough I dont mind spiders. Tho i’ve never dealt with a poisonous one so maybe thatd change my opinion. The lil ones I know theyre gonna be in their nests just eating bugs
