  • That does sound like a bad experience for sure :s

Hopefully they’ve ironed out all the false positives, I’ve heard other people say the same before. I’ll definitely make sure to map 1:1.

I’ve done things like that with my keyboard in the past and have no problems (I have left/right click keys on my mech keyboard - handy for thieving elves and stuff).

I will definitely check that out thanks! As far as new games go the only ones I really want to properly go through are Soulsbournes/Elden ring and the Witcher series. Apart from them and RS I don’t really feel enthralled by newer games so emulation is definitely the way to go.

Thanks! Hang in there with mining too :-)

  • Wouldn’t worry too much about that, in general stats and weapons are way more important than gear. You could probably manage DKS with ancients, a magic shortbow and a dragon scim. Blood spells are super handy too!

Just out of curiosity, do you mean Dagannoth Rex? The Zerker ring is a really solid upgrade, the other two are tiny DPS upgrades – being in the endgame the only place I use Seers ring is for Theatre of Blood if I’m freezing (pure btw), I haven’t used the Archer ring in yonks, lightbearer or suffering are usually way better for ranging.

  • I feel you, having done 4k+ raids I get burnout spells sometimes too. Mainly cox/tob, done about 150 toa experts but I’ve also had multiple 100+ dry spells; I couldn’t imagine it on an iron!

I’m sure there’s so much hype and scrutiny that Sailing will live up to expectations; Shamanism would be cool too though. I haven’t looked at it too much to be honest but I’m sure there will be Fally riots if necessary.

For Varlamore, yeah it does seem a good way of doing it, the map looks awesome, personally I’m most hyped for the main city (Civia Ilia Fortis), but I’m sure we will see some cool content getting released. Time will tell!

  • As someone who is nearly maxed, pacing really helps.

I think I went from around 2k total to near 2.2k (my max since I’m a pure) in about 2-3 years on and off. I’ve mixed a lot of raids/bossing/pking in with it…

Sometimes I’ll have a big xp session or other times I’ll take a break and chuck all my pvm/pk stuff onto my alt.

Combat Achievements seem a good way to make some money and get some nice perks (2min thralls I’m looking at you!). I can definitely do elites, probably masters but as far as I’m aware you have to be a zerk at least to get the zuk helm :-)

Fair play, as you say it is a “love it or hate it” affair. I personally really like the simplicity and stability of old school UNIX.

OpenBSD comes to mind as the closest thing in contemporary times and I would use it as a daily driver but I need Linux for a few bits.

Void to me seems like the Linux equivalent. Minimal, stable, no bullshit. Alpine also fits this criteria but is a bit more sparse in some packages that I use. Both great distros.

Systemd is 1.5+ million lines of code! However convenient, it felt forced by Redhat into the Linux world and many of us who do not like it feel bent over backwards to be fucked in the arse by Poettering et al.

As solely an init system, may I suggest a superior alternative, s6?

(I am in hospital on morphine so I may not be making sense).

If binary logs get corrupted they’re kaput; text logs are not (as far as I know?). Also you cannot grep binary logs? I wouldn’t know.

No, I just have used Linux/BSDs for ~15 years in a non-professional setting.

Runit is brilliantly simple, and as the old granite maul examine text says, “simplicity is the best weapon”.

I’m sorry, you won’t be able to convince me to use it, it doesn’t feel KISS (I left Arch when they swapped). Fuck binary logs too. The only place I use it is on my phone which is SailfishOS.

Void to me is what Arch used to be – I tend to use minimal replacements where I can, e.g. Openntpd as ntp, socklog as logger, seatd as logind, zfsbootmenu instead of systemd-boot, no polkit et cetera.

it’s the closest usable distro for me to cut most of the poetteringware out apart from messing around with Gentoo (which I can’t be arsed with any more). I am not a fan.

Like or dislike systemd, be it convenient or not, you can’t deny it’s a behemoth.
