Yeah - really confusing. I worked it out as (c.) 6 inches and then further confused myself as to why I was thinking inches from metres. Wild. Luckily I’ve lived with both metric and imperial and am apparently bilingual.

Smoking (anything) close to non-smokers is a person problem. Like folk who play their music audibly on transport. It’s selfish and anti social.
3/20th of a metre is a wild measurement to read.
Yeah, I’m Welsh myself. I just wondered how somebody who struggled with Wmffre / Humphrey would do with the whole Wrwgwai thing. Some English speakers get it immediately others get a headache thinking about it.
Having read your comment I’d like your views on “Wrwgwai” - the South American country of Uruguay.
In English English decisions can be taken as well as made… although it’s possibly more common to use “make” in the present tense and “took” in the past tense. i.e. “They took the decision to make no more decisions until tomorrow.”
I used rhythmbox on a system running Mint to move music to and from an iPod nano 2. It was fairly straight forward. Save the transfers before closing the programme and you’re good to go.
Enough with your psyop, Bill. Go back to trying to cure malaria to atone for your past sins.
Religion dissolves uncertainty. Why does….? Because the sky man said so. How does….? Because the sky man made it that way. What should I do with my life and how should I live it? Here’s a book written by the sky man and it has all the answers. No more thinking… I suppose it’s probably of great comfort to many.
I once took a job where we essentially repossessed trap houses from the inhabitants - even if they had once been legal tenants. I soon started feeling much better when neighbours cheered us on and brought cups of tea. I later discovered my boss was notorious in the industry for going after scum rather than debtors. That job might have been the closest I’ve ever got to public service. But as for everything else you say, I couldn’t agree more. Debt collection against individuals is a disgusting, exploitative and inherently corrupt business.
Maybe because many of us saw it happen the first time.
At the end of the last century, somewhere between 97-99 probably. I became fully equipped with a Motorola 501 Startac and a Psion Series 5mx. My whole world changed. I’d used a mandarin clamshell iBook and a “rabbit” phone previously (maybe an NEC?) but the Motorola and Psion were the first I bought for myself.
Yeah, that’s the thing. When I heard they were gonna make a film of Naked Lunch my first thought was: “wtf? you can’t put that on camera.” I think they delivered a great compromise in the end.
I just did the same. That’s a fantastic synopsis. Hope you enjoy watching it.
It’s definitely a film for your eyes rather than your brain. 10/10 will watch again.
My partner is still processing that film eight years later. She thinks she’ll be able to watch it again in another couple of years. I think I’ll keep her away from the book, whatever happens.
For only seven seconds worth of drumming the Amen Break’s influence and reach is mind blowing. It literally changed (modern, western) music.
“I do.” to the vicar…
Edit: this is a joke. I’m not some kind of disrespectful philanderer irl.
I’m not stalking you… honest ;-) “Left, right and centre” have always existed on a spectrum. Like you (I think) I’m left wing compared to an ultra nationalist, for example, but compared to a “tankie” I’m… whatever insult they want to throw my way. The key thing is “left” in itself is also a kind of spectrum; there’s an enormous difference between Stalin’s collectivisation of Soviet agriculture versus free school meals for all. You’ve met some socialists or communists etc and you seem to have realised/decided they’re a bit too left for you. Therefore it seemed reasonable to guess you were a little bit left as opposed to being full-on red flag waving left. This rant is just trying to say that there’s an entire sliding scale of left (and right) and it’s not about being 100% anything. Slightly or a bit left of middle seemed about where you might be.
That’s the spirit.
