At Midnight! OMG super in joke on our really niche, non pop culture website.
In English the ‘base’ of the word is ‘operate’. Co, an affix ( prefix ) modifies operate and means something like ‘operate together’, and can even be written as co-operative ( noun ) or co-operate ( verb, but antiquated in my opinion ) .
So it’s usually written without the dash, but when it’s shorted to ‘coop’ I think it’s best to use the dash as it removes ambiguity.
Depends on the size of the flock in the coop
I used it a decade ago and it was my favorite distro
I low key love it. It’s unconventional, but it’s not hard to read
I miss it. I came over right after Digg died, almost half a decade before 2010. Thought it was the ugliest site I had ever seen and found it super confusing.
People did largely speak their minds though, lots of controversial posts and uncensored humor, yeah it was nice, but the change in Reddit really mirrors general cultural changes too, it was more driven by Gen X and older millennials, more tech driven, and more what people would call edgy.
It was the wild west not so much because Reddit specifically was, but because that’s what broad tech bro Internet culture was. We also had relatively unmoderated Xbox Live and online gaming and other things that are hard to explain to folks now.
What we would call social media existed, Digg called it Social Bookmarking for a Digg / Reddit / Slashdot model. Myspace was just giving away to Facebook, Twitter was getting off the ground, and chat rooms, like Yahoo chatrooms and Geocities were so unhinged back then.
2005 is around the time that Yahoo started looking major ground to Google when just a few years prior it was the undisputed default search engine.
Neat to think about all this again.
I took out a loan, but the service request was in my partner’s name. It’s my phone, but now I’m getting crazy crypto spam WhatsApp stuff in her name, along with home security spam and other spam I never got before. Since it’s coming to my phone, in their name, either or both companies sold me / us out and we were getting calls within days.
You got voted down, but this is absolutely real. I speak multiple languages, but none with the nuance and clarity of context as I do English. I communicate with folks all across the world that are all English speakers, however, the variance in comprehension is so drastic that at times we’re really not using the same language, even if we’re using some of the same words.
If you emigrate to a country, it’s a reasonable expectation that you’ll learn the language. The United States doesn’t technically have an official language, English is just de facto, but from a practical standpoint it’s absolutely occupying that role, and will in perpetuity.
I can absolutely agree with the premise that being frustrated with language barriers isn’t racism, it’s an actual real and realized impediment to understanding.
For the mom is heavy and full of boobs
The internet is full of boobs, Lemmy is no exception. Ripley’s Believe It or Not, neither is your mom.
Please don’t think this is actually hateful porfis
You don’t
Sure, but that’s not what is happening here
US customary tips are now 22%
I honestly believed this was going to be where things went as well, the fact that it didn’t and they chose an honestly bizarre way to handle it really took the joy out of the present day stuff.
It’s because they’re all juvenile though. They actually don’t produce a hormone needed for proper growth and that’s why they look the way they do. They are supposed to go through another stage of growth, and their appearance and existence is because of a genetic birth defect.
Ya, they’re overly optimistic
I am kinda glad, and it reminds me of early Digg. When I first used Digg, it didn’t tailor the order or content of anything to you, it didn’t use an algorithm to keep throwing content at you, changing the order of what you see, and Lemmy reminds me of this.
I’m not here up be addicted or scroll endlessly, if anything, Lemmy feels healthier, like I can walk away and do something else.
Same here, love Connect, feels close enough to RIF to be a good replacement for the experience.
Honestly I think everything should move to 20.
Alcohol purchase, consumption. Military conscription, draft, voluntary service Age of majority, marriageable age Voting with automatic voting registration Drug consumption including nicotine, caffeine, and cabinets Driving ( permits at a prior age with supervision )
We know people’s brains aren’t really formed enough even at 18 to consider people adults, this younger age is a hold over from even younger ages and doesn’t reflect reality.
People who are not fully developed shouldn’t be able to make decisions with the full weight of adulthood, to take any other position is barbaric.
