I chose to eat alone tonight so I didn’t do all the fixings, but it’s enough for me. Last week was a tough one and for three days I’ve chosen not to deal with people. I may go out for a nightcap later but I’m not going to be dealing with anyone while I do.

That’s a great way to go. There are also still some budget options (Sceptre comes to mind) that don’t have any smart features in some models. My buddy just picked one up.

It’s an absolutely terrible TV, but for his use case it’s perfect. He’s using it as a karaoke monitor for parties at his house. It’s mounted in a covered patio and is dumb as hell.

They all but abandoned that years ago. They ain’t implementing shit on it.

Has it gotten worse, or has it stayed the same while real people left?

I don’t ask to be a jerk. I’m genuinely curious. I don’t roll over that way often anymore and when I do it’s always for super specific things so I don’t hit the front page.

Is it really even a different suit? With the “reality is a simulation” theory it’s likely whoever created the simulation offloaded a bunch of the mundane tasks to an AI that, if we were to try to interact with it, would be god.

I’m not saying I believe any of it. And I want to make sure you know I’m not shitting on your post because I like the way you’re looking at it.

I have a thousand wires hidden under my couch, my rug, my chair, and anywhere else I can hide them. Chargers, home theater, other chargers, smart-ish devices, and whatever else that I don’t even want to go look at.

You two are overlooking the most important thing. It might be fun to crazily rip out the cables then make a junior guy go trace and repatch it all. The opportunity to legitimately do that doesn’t come along often.

For real though, I had a variety of jobs when I got out of school. I went into the military, went to college for something that I didn’t want to do, worked in several fields, fell into a job in technology, went back to school, and I’ll retire doing this unless something drastically changes.

I can’t speak to much of this, but I have a friend who works on the technical side of health insurance. Specifically he is helping with FHIR. I did some HL7 work a long time ago which lets health systems talk to each other. FHIR is supposed to be a more comprehensive offshoot (I asked if it was HL7 on steroids and wasn’t corrected).

Unfortunately, I may have misunderstood. My career took me a different path than his so I’m way out of date on it.

Probably unpopular, but I really like Studio One. Reaper is more powerful, and I love it too, but there’s something about Studio One that just let me wrap my brain around it the first time I used it. For me, it’s great for quick and dirty production which is a lot of what I do and “just works” with my interface and mixing console.

Of course that’s not the case for everyone and a lot of folks want and need something with more to it.

They’ve been reinvented repeatedly. Citrix, terminal servers, thin clients, cloud desktops, web apps, remote app delivery…

Most people (not necessarily here) need a web browser and an office program. Most people are well suited to terminals or something like a Chromebook.

I need actual hardware for my job and hobbies, but even I have a mini PC set up like a gaming console so that if I want to play games on my bedroom TV I don’t have to hook up my Steam Deck or gaming laptop. I just stream them.

That’s how most of them work. I got baby toys for a friend’s baby and the Internet started trying to sell me all kinds of baby things. You listen to a lot of podcasts about craft beer? They assume you’re a 40 year old white dude who needs beard oil.

It’s the kind of place that will yee your haw.

I have a Tailscale subnet router set up locally and added the remote IPs to my router. Tailscale on every device was a crapshoot as to whether it would route locally or through the VPN.

I asked support and they said it should be on every device. Could be something else on my network forcing it to act like that but I don’t have enough give-a-shit in me to troubleshoot it.
