How come they don’t just use VLC?
How come they don’t just use VLC?
Nvidia user here. The criticism of Nvidia support on Linux is always blown way out of proportion by AMD fanboys.
The only issue I ever have is needing to prepend prime-run
to each application I want to launch with the dedicated GPU.
I’ve had significantly worse problems with AMD drivers, so much so that it really opened my eyes to how stable things were on the green team.
I’m not saying you should get one over the other, but you shouldn’t let fanboys dictate your decision. They will try to do so without admitting they’re fanboys, so we have admit it for them.
I highly recommend getting a gaming laptop. You can buy a 4070 lenovo laptop at Walmart for $1k (at least in the US.)
Otherwise, check out https://old.reddit.com/r/LaptopDeals/ until you find something that fits your needs and budget. (sorry for linking to the other site)
You should use bluetooth controllers instead of ones that take a dongle simply because the dongle is unnecessary. Playstation controllers work well, but they’re expensive and I haven’t been able to find a 3rd party variant that works properly.
I also recommend getting a wireless keyboard + mouse combo.
670 is still better than nothing.
Hopefully it can find its way to someone else’s home on the cheap and still give them plenty of years of fun.
I’m using Wayland right now, but tentatively.
Right now there’s an issue in WoW where sometimes when I move my mouse and left-click, the camera jumps to a different position, usually trying to look up.
Only happens on Wayland and it’s fixed temporarily by switching between windowed and fullscreen mode. The problem comes back sometimes when alt-tabbing and refocusing the game.
There was a bug in KDE recently where some menus weren’t properly appearing on Wayland, but that seems to have been fixed after my latest update.
Based on my own experience developing GUIs, I’ve reached the conclusion that creating them through code is obsolete.
We should be focusing on developing GUIs to develop GUIs, like Godot, instead of ‘frameworks’ that make an obsolete method of doing things even more cumbersome and complex.
Shouldn’t they be designed in an intuitive manner that makes misuse more difficult than regular use?
Otherwise, why even bother using them? It’s like now you need to know all the ins and outs of CSS and a trendy framework that will lock you into their ecosystem.
What’s sad is that web development is only a nightmare so websites can be worse.
I genuinely believe it’s part of the concerted effort by the cabal to make us accept a ‘new normal.’
They don’t want an environment where anyone feels like they can make a website. They want us to believe we need to spend years studying before we can do anything, and even then we can only do what our bosses tell us to.
I think they exist because of ignorance.
People who don’t understand how to do a task will usually choose the wrong tools for that task.
If someone is trying to cover up their lack of knowledge, they will usually make things more complicated than they need to be.
all apps are already built
Couldn’t be further from the truth. You also have to consider competition.
Honestly, CSS is a fucking joke and it’s solely to blame for why centering something isn’t always straightforward.
By the way, this picture is a crock of shit for people who aren’t programmers. Anyone who is a programmer will not take it seriously because programming is so much more about helping others instead of shaming them.
Lol, what? Do people really care about the ‘speed’ of their video player in 2025?
