  • From a matter of convenience I could actually appreciate what they are trying to do.

Binge watching TV on disc, especially DVD, is frustrating. If you aren’t using the extra content (such as commentary), streaming is much better, as you can binge more episodes at a time or watch certain episodes without having to switch discs.

If I was unaware this was available on a streaming service I had, I’d appreciate the reminder. But I’d appreciate it more at or before the main menu, not during the content, and certainly not more than once (or reset when the disc is removed).

  • I’m getting my doomscrolling and worthless banter/arguing with strangers “fix” from lemmy.

But Lemmy is no replacement for local news/rumormill, or most career/hobby subs, yet. Except for at a very high level. Like metro area, or “gaming”. Reddit is still far superior only because theres already a community there.

Eventually Lemmy may get to that point. Time will tell. I still haven’t installed the Reddit app, and I basically only end up there when some other search brings me to Reddit. I’ve already stopped muscle-memory impulsively typing it. My autocomplete for www.red is no longer safe-for-work.

Went out to a pizza place the other night. Thought it was a brewery (one of my favorite local brews, actually), and had been there before and enjoyed flights from them…only to find out the place was a joint between the brewmaster and the restaurateur. Brewmaster took his share, his recipes, and dipped a couple days prior.

Anyways while the food was pretty good, I mostly went for the beer and that’s a big part of why I won’t go back (they only had a couple cans from the brewery left and nothing on tap, only some other regional breweries).

But the other part is that my wife put a tip down on the slip for our party of four (us and two kids) and asked me to doublecheck her math. I thought it seemed high and it turned out they already put a tip on the bill. For a party of four. Never saw that before.

I’m a big fan of retired systems for every day use. A 14 year old server has more function as a space heater and whitenoise generator than a desktop, though.

7th-8th gen Intel retired corporate desktops and laptops from Dell/Lenovo/HP are a dime a dozen on eBay man. Lenovos tend to run Linux very well out of the box. And Linus himself sent his daughter to college with a Dell XPS.

  • Large smart appliances aren’t dumb about what they do. I have LG smart dishwasher and washer/dryer…can’t remote start any of them unless I power them on and press the remote start button and shut the door first.

If the door opens again, then remote start gets locked out again, until the remote start button gets pressed on the console.

Also, people talk shit but I love getting a push when the washer/dryer/dishwasher is done, or when the kids leave the fridge door open. And tossing a quilt/blanket/comforter in the dryer and hitting “remote start” before leaving for the day, and then turn it on to tumble a bit on your way home so you can just snuggle up with a fresh hot blanket is next-level living my man.

One thatsurprisingly can’t be solved by electric blankets, since most default to “off” when power is restored, so you can’t use them effectively with a smart plug.
