I had the idea (source: fictional TV) that ALL cops had to be trained at a police academy before becoming cops. That’s not the case?
Everything it says is shit
At one of my old jobs, someone who was a manager at another business called and assumed I was a manager as well. He asked for a reference on an employee who had recently quit. The guy who left hadn’t been very good at the job, but he was a good person, clearly trying something different in a new field. I gave him a good “reference”, and the other manager sounded happy.
I wonder how it went for my old coworker…
Stone memorials - like the Lincoln, Jefferson, Vietnam, or WWII memorials in Washington D.C.
Some people just like debating. It’s incredibly refreshing when someone you completely disagree with raises a thoughtful, interesting point.
The authors of the article are just as incredulous as you are. No, there’s no oversight. The FAA (for example) does license and regulate some things, but very, very little that specifically targets skydiving.
As businesses go, the laws are astonishingly loose, especially considering how dangerous skydiving can be.
A mattress, sheets, and at least one pillow. It can be expensive, but the first time you lay down in a bed that’s actually comfortable, you’ll know it was worth it.
I figured that out a little too late lol
Florida is south of New York, and Florida state officials are making public statements that you’d expect from someone wearing a tin foil hat. OP might want to take that into account when choosing a place to live.
Exactly. Those people are paid salaries. They have teams working on things. When something is allowed to go wrong, someone either didn’t do the job they’re paid for, or they’re incompetent/apathetic. They’re using proven software that’s been around a while.
When there’s a problem with a Lemmy instance, then maybe the one person responsible was at the job that actually pays their rent. They’re working with beta software that’s full of “surprises”.
No. This is incredibly complex software run by people with little or no budget. I’m grateful that it exists at all.
I’m struggling to use kbin right now, and even when it works, it’s incredibly slow. I’m amazed that this has been going on for days. I feel sorry for whoever is trying to fix it. It must be a nightmare. Where’s the best place to go for status updates and news from the devs?
I think you’re growing (though not always for the better) at least as much as you’re “dying”. I say “at least” because you understand more and have more life experience, and, in many cases, you’re better able to appreciate things than you were when you were younger.
Your personality undergoes too much change to simply describe it as “dying”. That’s only half of what’s going on.
Nah, “i always tried to blow the smoke away from the customers anyway” would be funny regardless of who was saying it. But I’m upvoting you because I’m pretty sure you’re just messing with me.
This doesn’t strike me as mildly infuriating. It’s 100% funny! Extra points for the tats!
By taking what limited steps I can, and by not criticizing others if I don’t think their efforts are thorough, effective, or sincere enough (nobody likes a smug, judgmental, pedantic asshole). By recognizing that people cope in their own ways, and keeping an open mind. By generally trying to be considerate of others.
It is truly amazing how little high school drama will matter to you once you’ve graduated.
It’s also amazing how easy it is for some adults to judge/dismiss people who are going through one of the most difficult periods of their life. It’s like some adults forget that they were ever teenagers. I can understand adults wanting to block it out, but being a dick about it is a touch much.
Interesting. Thank you!
