“One of the most important things we need to do as a country as we begin to rebuild our politics is we need to elect serious people,”
Liz Cheney channeling Logan Roy over here.
This was a great read! This was actually a local race near me, and I didn’t pay THAT much attention because it isn’t in my actual district, but I remember hearing about the race with one guy that was an “internet microcelebrity”.
In the first paragraph of the article, it says that they are leaning towards voting third party instead. Harris should be extremely concerned.
Dems should be ringing the bell that it was Republicans that tanked Biden’s border bill. Every single time this issue comes up, they should immediately pivot to educating the public on this, and questioning why the GOP turned down this bill if they care so much.
do you disagree with the premise?
Please I am begging you all I want is affordable healthcare. Is Medicare for All not brat-coded enough?
Maybe it was because her main opposition was a dude that let a child drown while under his supervision, and then he went and joked about it on Twitter?
very interesting. this aligns with my general view that the divisiveness and polarization of modern politics is mostly (but not entirely) driven by conservatives, but it’s cool to see someone crafting a tool to actually prove this point!
is combatting price gouging a progressive policy? I thought that was like base-level liberal shit? Which is why everyone has been so frustrated with Biden for doing nothing.
what about 2016? As of Election Day 2016, the fivethirtyeight model gave Clinton a 71% chance of winning. This was lower than basically every competing model, and importantly, 71% is not 100%. Trump got lucky in 2016, and the model’s percentage reflected that.
right, but will it sound corny when they’re still saying it in October? How does it sound to a swing voter? The power of these memes and slogans seems to be in energizing the base, which is important but you need more than the base to win.
It’s just one take. Is there a reason to not give his takes the time of day?
Idk, I think his analysis is generally pretty measured, and I find myself appreciating his takes even when I don’t agree with them. In this post, the point he makes is that memes are fleeting, and so a campaign has to keep coming up with viral memes if they want to rely on them for the long haul. That’s easier said than done. The other point he makes is that the “long haul” in this case is not particularly long, and so it would be much easier for Harris to meme her way to victory in this race.
Per the sidebar:
In-depth political discussion from around the world; if it’s a political happening, you can post it here.
So people coming to this community from in and outside Beehaw are generally looking to have conversations about current political happenings. It’s not that a post like yours isn’t allowed, and I’m not even trying to frown upon it or anything. Posts just tend to get more engagement (or the right kind of engagement) if you post it in a community that matches the intended audience.
Uh…what exactly does this have to do with politics? I got no problem with striking up conversation based on personal ideas and theories, but this feels more like something for the Chat community, no?
If you look at the historical data, home state advantage is only like 1/8 as strong for VP pick as it is for the presidential candidate. Now, this could still be enough to make a difference in Pennsylvania, but there were other factors that made Shapiro a bad pick imo.
This is my rallying cry
he was energizing when he was first announced, and he was viewed as an effective “messenger” in the same way that Walz is. Clearly the Trump & Co skimped on vetting JD ahead of time, though.
they just can’t help themselves from being weird
